Playgrounds & Lollipops - Lindsey From The Pleated Poppy

I discovered Lindsey months ago through one of her giveaways, and I happened to click on her blog during What I Wore Wednesday. I stopped in my tracks and said, "Wait, another mom is as crazy as me? Documenting outfits, taking pictures of themselves, discussing the when, where, what, why of their wardrobe choices?" I immediately linked up to one of my Playgrounds & Lollipops posts, but then felt silly...you can read about how crazy I truly am here. Anyhow, since then, I've had fun watching Lindsey inspire so many other moms to think about fashion in a new way. I think when I started reading WIWW, Lindsey had about 5-8 link ups? Now she has about 60 each week! I think whether you consider yourself a fashion icon or not, as a mom, we could all use the lift that a good pair of ballet flats, a perfect cardi, and a cute petal pusher pin can give. Never underestimate the power of good accessorizing! And now I will shut up and let you read about Lindsey!

when andrea asked me to do an outfit post for her, my first thought was, "ME?! are you serious?!" andrea is the queen of fashion, and pulls it off effortlessly. yet, she still looks like a mom, not afraid to be tugged on by grubby little fingers or squat down on the grass at the park. but me? i am low on the fashion totem pole. sure i do a weekly "what i wore" post, but its more as an accountability tool than a fashion post.

since i am a stay-at-home mom, part time home schooler, and a small business owner, i tend to be home a lot. about 6 months ago i decided that even though i wasn't going to leave the house, sometimes for days on end, maybe getting out of my pj's or sweats would be a good idea. i'm not big on makeup or fancy hair, so its really easy to let myself go. but on the days that i put a little effort into myself, i feel better about myself. my husband makes sweet comments about how i look. and taking near daily pictures of myself and posting them made me be accountable to my blog readers that i would not stay in sweats or my husband's pj's all day. but sometimes i do, and i post those pics anyway!

so i chose just one outfit to share with you today, and most of it is new. i don't buy new clothes very often, but if you follow my wiww's then you know most of my clothes come from target, old navy, forever 21, and walmart. i am cheap. period. and don't laugh too hard at the pictures - i had my 7 year old take pics of me so they aren't professional quality (aka blurry). and i hate being in front of the camera.
this is where i spend most of my day. its our playroom turned school room turned studio, all rolled into one.
this is my happy place. i can stare at beautiful fabric and then chop it all up into pretty messes, all while my children play quietly beside me, never ever arguing or disobeying (*wink wink*).
sweater - target (~$15)
top - forever21 ($15)
jeans - gap ($25)
flats - target ($13)
grey petal pusher (flower pin) - my shop
loving this new top from forever 21. i love the deep dark grey color and the details,
like the velvet trim along the ruffle.
i need clothes that are comfy and practical. by the end of the day i'm covered in thread and cheetos fingerprints, so nothing too fussy. but when its cute too, its a win win!
i have these flats in copper, too. sooo comfortable. and look - they have a teeny bit of sparkle to them!
i also love the girlie details along the neckline of the top - sparkly buttons and a lacey placket o so pretty!
anything with ruffles wins me over.
so if you are needing a little motivation to actually get dressed in the morning, or if you're more like andrea and can actually inspire so many of us, please visit me on wednesdays and link up with all of us crazies!

Thanks so much for playing along Lindsey. You look great, and I need you to go ahead and pack up that top and send it my way. I need it!

  3. ohhhhh to have thin thighs and be able to purchase skinny jeans. maybe in a year. gah.
so so cute. and i want her studio.
    my brain hurts now.
laughing that i am dressed for a work out (ie no shower and my tee shirt and skort) and am "at work" here at my house. must do a bit better in being more "presentable" at work since the hubs works here, too.
    yay for me. (slight sarcasm)

  5. Adorable. I follow her blog and always think how cute she looks in her inexpensive outfits. I can't make myself look that cute no matter how much I spend! Fashion is not a gift of mine.

  9. Adorable! I got one of Lindsey's pins at the last Blog Sugar, and I just wore it this week to jazz up an old navy tee. Accessories so in fact make the outfit at times.
