Why do I do this every time I read a good {great} book?
I devour it like it's the last book I'll ever read
I sneak in reading any chance I get.
So that I carry the book around in the car with me and read at stop lights.
I read while I'm getting dressed.
I read while the kids are playing for 3 minutes in the other room.
Not entirely an enjoyable type of reading, but I do it anyway.
Instead of just taking my time.
Reading slowly, thoughtfully, contently for an hour before bed.
I suck it all up until it's dry and then I'm done.
And I am sad that it's over.
I miss the characters already.
And I think, did I miss something during my hurricane of a reading process?
Always the same regret with each book.
Yet, I don't change my ways.
What would you call that?

Goodbye Skeeter, Minny and Abi
Mariel informed me they're making a movie.
I can't wait.

  3. It was a good book. I loved it and I am a pretty harsh critic. In fact, my book club often is irritated by me and all my criticisms.
And I read books the same way. One of the reasons I loved nursing is that I could sit down with a book many times through the day. If it's good, you just can't stop. And then, you read it again!

  5. I'm the same too. I finish a book that has engrossed me and been the center of my life during the time I was reading it. I finish it and am like "Now what?"

  6. Hahaha! I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one who does this! I'm reading "Water for Elephants" right now and was so excited to take it to my hair appointment so I could actually read more than little snippets in the daylight hours. I was totally reading at the red lights on the way home. I also like to prop it open on the bathroom counter while I dry my hair too. ;) Gotta love a good book!

  7. Hmm...what would I call that? NORMAL. It's impossible to live a busy life with small children, crawl under the covers, and keep your eyes OPEN at the end of the day. I read the EXACT same way. I am constantly reading...so much so that my husband calls it "paragraph style". I read as many paragraphs as possible before I have to stop. Page markers? What? No. Paragraph markers. Okay this is turning into a novel of my own here...

  8. This book is sitting on my nightstand waiting to be read! I'm glad it was good. I do the same thing, and then miss the book/characters. :)

  9. I have to be careful what and when I start reading because the entire world disappears--dinner, kids crying, whatever.
I really liked this book. The way it was written, the way it approached the subject matter, everything.

  10. Oh, I am with you! When I fall in love with a book, I literally take it everywhere I go. When I'm done, I'm inevitably filled with this feeling that my best friends have left town, and now I have nothing to do. Normally I have myself a good cry and move on to the next novel on my list, hoping it's just as good.

  12. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who devours a book like I might never hold one in my hands again. I usually end up reading late at night after Landon is in bed or while he's stretched out across my lap sleeping.

The Help is such an amazing book. I cannot wait to see Skeeter, Minny and Abi brought to life in a movie.

  13. I must confess that I read many books as though they are my last...

Specifically, I want to read The Help, but all "my" libraries have it on reserve, and I don't really want to spend the $$.

Somebody just convince me to spend the cash, OK?

  14. It's good that you only read at stop lights. I rear ended someone once reading while driving down the road. Don't recommend that brilliant move. Loved that book, though! The characters were immediately fast friends.

still not sure how it works, but you write your blog URL in the front cover and pass it on.
    i'm listing this book tomorrow.
