Playgrounds & Lollipops - Chevron Chambray

{Skirt-Missoni for Target; Chambray Shirt-Kohl's; Boots-Dolce Vita via Marshall's; Necklace-c/o The Style Bandit}

Last night I declared I hated this outfit, not the outfit entirely, but mainly just how the skirt and boots work together.  The chambray shirt and my beautiful necklace are about the only redeeming things about this look.  It just feels too young for me and while I'm not going to give up on the skirt just yet, I think it would be much better suited for me, back to flat riding boots and a simple long sleeve T or turtleneck.  Somoething about the combination of the short skirt and the boots with heels just doesn't feel right, perhaps a little too sexy?   And if you recall this post I wrote a while back about dressing for you, I don't do well with sexy.

I'm trying the shirt today with more of a rugged look, perhaps I'll post it tomorrow.  Much, much more suited to me and my style.  What do you guys think?  Too young for a 35 year old mom?  Any other suggestions to make it a little more suited for me?  Linking up with Lindsey for WIWW

  1. Definitely not too young or if it is I am truly guilty at 34, haha. I feel like there isn't really a clear line on what is too young/old for someone to wear- most important is to be comfortable and do what YOU want! If people have a problem it is their problem only- not yours (but then I tend to not really care what other people think when it comes to fashion!) And the flat riding boots would look great with that skirt- perfect for fall!

  2. I think you look cute! I'd be interested in seeing the skirt with the riding boots and a more fitted top, too!

    You're hot, though. Own it! ; )

  3. Hey weirdo. WHAT do you not like about this? I love the whole outfit. GREAT job pulling everything together. The chambray is such a nice contrast to the fun skirt. an NO, it's perfect for a 35 yr old mama! I need to get me some fabulous boots like that to wear with skirts this fall. Oh you are adorable. Will you come to my house and help me put together outfits out of my closet? It's full to overflowing, but I can never pull things together like this. Love it!

  4. STOP IT...I LOVE THIS LOOK!!!! You look so cute. I am totally with you about dressing your age...I am all for looking good everyday..but it has to compliment ones age. I am 33 now...and have to tweek some of my old favs now that I am older and a mommy to three...BUT...it doesn't mean we can't be sexy...rock the look girl!!! I actually love it all...but if you wanted to tame it just a smidge (for your liking) you can always do a taller boot..right below the knee boot...but I vote keep as is. :) I think you paired Valentina beautifully with the shirt! You are inspiring me to start a design section to my lil rookie blog...I just LIVE for fashion! :)

  5. I like it! I think it's super cute and as a 35yr. old mom you keep it classy and yet a bit sassy.
Not "sexy" as in come over here big boy but sassy in that "yeah I'm over 30 and rocking a stylish outfit. now what" type of way.
    I dig it.
I could see wearing it the other way w/ flat boots but I like that you went out of your comfort zone and tried something new.
and I'm totally living vicariously through you because I am round and can't wear fun stuff like that right now.

  7. I'm with you. I feel totally uncomfortable in anything I see as "too sexy." I would definitely add a pair of leggings or opaque tights with that outfit. It would make me feel much more comfortable.

  8. Definitely not too young. I think its cute, although, you could totally change it around with other shirt options if you wanted.

I personally prefer *not* to wear boots with skirts unless their knee high, but that is very much a personal thing, and not something wrong with the outfit at all!

  9. I am a tights girl. Perhaps brown tights and a simple fitted shirt??? I don't know. You're the expert in this area and you look great as is. I just know how it is when it just doesn't feel right.

  10. I think it turned out super cute friend!! I wish I had those legs, I might wear skirts that cute more often. I really like how you paired the chambray shirt with it.

  11. From a mom perspective I agree with the other readers that suggested tights. Moms need to be able to bend over and we have to deal with little wandering hands that always seem to want to grab onto clothes and pull or lift. But if you were going out without the kids it would be cute :)

  13. I definitely don't hate this look! It certainly doesn't look too young (you are young!!) and not too sexy either. I do see what you are saying that the piece would probably be better suited with other things, but it definitely doesn't look bad!

  20. i'm in love with those boots! and i join the masses when i say: you look fabulous! of course, we all know how it is when an outfit just feels "off" for some reason, and i'd be inclined to say that adding tights might help that feeling since the skirt's maybe a little shorter than what you're used to. i'm impressed, though: i wasn't a huge fan of some of the missoni prints when they came out, but now that i see how to wear it, i like it. :)
